Giving Back: See the World Better

From the Hip has been fortunate to grow up in a supportive, positive community and volunteerism is an important component of our identity as a company. As our team has grown over the past seven years it has become increasingly important to give back to the neighborhood and city that has provided so much for all of us.

See the World Better is From the Hip’s non-profit and cultural exchange partnership. Its goal is to collaborate with select partner organizations in the Denver area and leverage our photographic experience and expertise to help those groups thrive. Our pro-bono work on this front has found us joining up with survivors of the Aurora movie theater shooting, lending our services to various fundraisers and charitable organizations such as The Wayfaring Band, and donating custom photography packages to various causes.

Right now, we are able to donate dozens of hours of photography services and time to four primary organizations through our See the World Better initiative. Check out the photos below to learn more about these amazing institutions!

Brent’s Place

From the Hip has the privileged distinction of being the photography partner for Brent’s Place, a phenomenal non-profit located near Children’s Hospital in Aurora.

Brent’s Place strives to provide a unique home away from home for children undergoing treatment for various forms of cancer and the families who are supporting them throughout the process. Their unique facility vigilantly protects the fragile health of patients while also strengthening the integrity of the family unit, enriching day-to-day life and fostering an unwavering community of support. From providing nightly meals to organizing outings and events, Brent’s Place contributes an array of vital services and a nurturing sense of community to the families it serves–all at zero cost.

Our team was honored to receive Brent’s Place Volunteer Appreciation Award in 2015 and has been lucky enough to support the organization through a wide range of photography projects including family photo sessions, capturing birthdays and special occasions, serving as documentarians for fundraising events, and assisting with organizational needs such as headshots and interior photography of the living quarters and community areas within the facility itself.

Anchor Center for Blind Children

The Anchor Center for Blind Children is a not-for-profit organization based in the Stapleton neighborhood dedicated to providing early intervention/education to blind and visually impaired children throughout the state of Colorado. Their staff of highly trained vision specialists, therapists and teachers strive to foster the full potential of children who are blind by providing exemplary education, therapy, and family support services.

From the Hip has been excited to collaborate with the Anchor Center team on a variety of fundraising events, including their hallmark “Dancing with the Anchors” competition and their annual “Cherrity Pie” day, as well as other special functions. In the near future we will also be providing pro-bono architectural photography of the incredible Anchor Center facility–a space designed with thoughtful consideration of its young attendees–as well as professional headshots for the entire Anchor Center team.

Nerd Nite Denver

Nerd Nite Denver is the local iteration of a world-wide monthly lecture series that strives to foster an inebriated, salacious, yet deeply academic vibe. Think of TED Talks geared toward people, well, like us: dorky and interested in a wide range of fascinating, idiosyncratic topics.

We were hooked from the first time we attended Nerd Nite as patrons and immediately knew we needed to find a way to support this spunky, unique cultural phenomenon. Nearly since its inception, our team has been a Nerd Nite Denver sponsor. As its official photography partner, we commemorate each guest speaker’s presentation through images that capture the essence and fun of the event. Previous speakers have included coroners, flight traffic controllers, personal trainers, matchmakers, improv comedy instructors, research scientists, legal experts, writers and authors, and a myriad of other very cool, very nerdy folks.

The Narrators

For over half a decade, The Narrators has carved out a phenomenal niche within the Denver arts community, celebrating the craft of storytelling and performance with a monthly event that is free to attend and incredibly memorable. Each month sees a group of six performers (typically writers, comedians, and actors) tackling a specific theme and sharing true stories from their own lives around that central idea.

From the Hip is proud to help sponsor The Narrators in our role as its photography partner, documenting each month’s performances at the Buntport Theater in Denver’s Santa Fe Arts District.
